I needed to quickly transfer files from an old laptop to a new one. You can do this by connecting two computers back-to-back using a LAN cable. This file transfer is faster compared to using an external hard drive, a cloud service like Microsoft OneDrive or even using wireless (theoretically speaking).
I manually set an IP address on both laptops under Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > right-click on Local Area Connection > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). For this scenario, I used 10.1.1.1/8 for PC1 (new) and 10.1.1.2/8 for PC2 (old). You don't need a default gateway or DNS server for this setup.
In order to share files in PC2, go to My Computer > right-click on a specific drive (Local Disk C: in this case) > Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > tick Share this folder > tick Permissions > add Group or usernames > tick all Allow permissions > click Apply > click OK.
On PC1, click the Windows circle button on the lower left corner > on the Search bar type \\10.1.1.2 > press Enter.
Notice the 13.4 GB file transfer was only around 9 minutes (talk about productivity!). Remove the folder sharing and permission afterwards.
